Four Roses, OBSV Royal Liquors Single Barrel #51-4T

Sammy’s hand picked OBSV barrel, picked on his 2018 visit to Four Roses is a fantastic representation of the OBSV profile.

Four Roses, OBSV Royal Liquors Single Barrel #51-4T

ABV: 60.8% // 121.6p

Age: 9 years 5 months

Barrel: #51-4T

Bottled: June 11th, 2018

Distilled: January 2009

Recipe: OBSV // 60/35/5

Release: Fall 2018

Warehouse: MW

Color: Dark Amber

Non-chill filtered

Nose:  Dried pineapple & red apples, candied lemon peel, smoked, charred vanilla. Rich rye spices balance near perfect with the sweeter notes. Very pleasant wood notes as well, rich signature hickory and red cedar wood notes accompany the oak. Truly beautiful.

Palate: Charred marshmallow, burnt toast, more hickory & rich baking spices. Bitter char & tannin heavy on the back palate.

Finish: Long. Vanilla and caramel, charred american oak - really the quintessential Bourbon finish. Barrel tannins are so vivid and nothing is blurred. Just so much flavor.  Ends with that charred marshmallow from the palate.

Bourbon and House Rating: 92.5

I enjoyed Sammy’s OESK pic more than this OBSV.  That’s not to say this isn’t great stuff and worth every penny.  Whereas this OBSV pic was more the straightforward, prototypical Bourbon profile, the OESK offered much more complexity and layers of flavor and depth.  Still an A grade Bourbon nonetheless!
